National parks will now be using local and organic foods in their restaurants and cafeterias, according to an article by Boulder Weekly. There are new federal laws that encourage these parks to have sustainable sources for their foods. According to the article, “the rules apply to private companies seeking to operate snack bars and restaurants under concession from the federal government.” The parks will be using biodegradable utensils, but other than partnerships with local farmers there is not much else said about how the parks will be more sustainable. However, working with local farmers is a large first step to making parks completely sustainable in the future. Hopefully, national parks will be an example for other areas on how to become more sustainable. It is nice to know the government is beginning to make concerted efforts into changing their policies for a more sustainable future.
